Frontline Plus price comparison
Frontline Plus is a monthly over-the-counter topical for fleas and ticks on dogs. It has been on the market for decades, no prescription is required, and price competition between retailers is strong, so the spread between the cheapest and priciest seller is often large.

Why the same box costs so much more at the vet
Vet clinics buy medications in small quantities and price them with a margin that helps keep the practice running. That is not a scam, but it does mean paying 2 to 3 times the online price for the identical product is common.
Large online pharmacies buy in volume and compete with each other in public, which pushes prices down. Promotions move prices around too: first-order coupons and autoship discounts can shift the effective price by 5 to 30 percent, so we list base prices and note promotions separately instead of mixing them together.
Frontline Plus is sold over the counter, which means more retailers carry it and prices swing more often. It also means counterfeit risk on marketplace listings from unknown third-party sellers, so we only compare retailers selling through their own storefronts.
Common questions
Why is Frontline Plus so much cheaper than chews like NexGard?
Fipronil is long off patent and sold over the counter, so many retailers compete on price, and generic fipronil topicals compete too. Prescription chews have no generic competition, which keeps their prices high.
Are generic versions of Frontline Plus safe?
Generic fipronil plus (S)-methoprene topicals with the same active ingredients are sold under several brand names. If you are considering one, check that the ingredients and concentrations match and ask your vet if unsure.
Does Frontline Plus cover heartworm?
No. It covers fleas, ticks, and lice. Heartworm prevention is a separate medication. Ask your vet what your dog needs.
